Prints

Exhibition fine art prints are available for most of the images you see on the website. The normal print sizes are 10x15, 12x18, 14x21, 16x24 and 20x30, matted to standard frame sizes of 16x20, 20x24, 22x28, 24x30 or 30x40 respectively. Click here for current pricing: 2017 print prices. Prints include acid-free double mat (white). I use Canon printers, archival inks and a short list of fine-art photographic papers for long-lasting prints.

A Note on Print Sizes: We use paper sizes (in inches) of 11.7×16.5 (A3), 13x19 (SuperB), 17x22, 24×30 and so on to describe the standard photographic paper sizes on which prints are traditionally made. The actual image size of the print will be somewhat smaller than these industry-standard photo paper sizes for the following reasons:

  1. Borders: To assist handling and matting, all prints include a border. Thus, a paper size of 13x19 will have a print area of 12x18, assuming the image is uncropped.
  2. Proportions: Digital sensors have a format ratio of 4:3 or 3:2, so a full-frame, uncropped print on 13x19 paper can measure no more than 12x18. Some images have been cropped to other sizes for artistic reasons (nature doesn't always display herself in a 3:2 or 4:3 ratio). Prints will therefore be true to size in one dimension, but may not be in another.
  3. Overmatting: To ensure that the mat window does not reveal any of the white border around the print, the windows are cut very slightly smaller than the image area, obscuring a minimal area of the image along its edges (usually 1/8").

To eliminate any questions, we will respond to all order inquiries with the actual print, paper and mat sizes for the particular image of interest.
